Stake Shield: How Multi Bet Protection Works

Stake Shield protects an eligible multi bet against a selected number of losing legs. You choose the protection level before placing the wager, and Stake reduces the odds to match the lower winning requirement.
The return is fixed when the bet is confirmed, even if every selection wins.
What Is Stake Shield?
Stake Shield changes how many selections must win for a multi bet to pay.
A standard four-leg multi requires all four picks to win. With one losing leg protected, the ticket can still pay if three selections win. The protection applies to the full ticket.
It is not a free bet, cashback offer or refund. The winning condition and payout are adjusted before the wager is placed.
Main Stake Shield Rules
| Feature | Rule |
|---|---|
| Bet type | Qualifying pre-match multis |
| Minimum selections | Three |
| Payout | Reduced and fixed |
| Live betting | Not eligible |
| Same Game Multis | Not eligible |
| Racing, Player Props and outrights | Not eligible |
| Cashout | Not available |
| Minimum adjusted odds | Above 1.01 |
| End date | December 31, 2026 |
How to Activate Stake Shield
Build a pre-match multi with at least three qualifying selections. When eligible, Stake Shield appears in the bet slip.
Activate it and review the available protection levels. Each option shows how many losing legs are allowed and the adjusted payout.
Before confirming the wager:
- Compare the standard and protected returns.
- Check how many selections must win.
- Review the final payout.
- Confirm the protected bet.
If the option does not appear, remove excluded markets and check that the ticket contains enough eligible selections.
Stake Shield Payout Example
The figures below are illustrative. Actual odds depend on the selections in your bet slip.
| Bet setup | Required winners | Example odds | $10 return |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard multi | 4 of 4 | 8.00 | $80 |
| One loss protected | 3 of 4 | 2.60 | $26 |
| Two losses protected | 2 of 4 | 1.35 | $13.50 |
With one loss protected, the wager pays when three selections win. The return stays at $26 even if all four picks are correct.
Check the payout before choosing maximum protection. Removing one uncertain leg may offer a better return than heavily protecting a longer multi.
Eligible and Excluded Bets
Stake Shield is available on qualifying pre-match multis with at least three selections. Eligible markets from different sports can be combined.
The feature does not apply to:
- Live or in-play markets
- Same Game Multis and Bet Builders
- Racing markets
- Player Props
- Outright bets
Cashout is unavailable once a protected multi has been placed. The adjusted odds must remain above 1.01.
What Happens If a Selection Is Void?
Stake removes a void selection and recalculates the protected odds.
If the new odds fall below 1.01, the full wager is void. Settlement may wait until the remaining selections are completed. Dead heat or split-win rules can also reduce the payout.
Stake Shield vs a Standard Multi
A standard multi offers the full combined odds, but every selection must win. Stake Shield accepts a selected number of losing legs in exchange for a lower fixed payout.
Compare both versions before betting. Use Shield only when the protected return still fits the ticket. Avoid adding random legs to unlock more protection.
Stake Shield Availability
Stake Shield is scheduled to remain available until December 31, 2026.
Availability can vary by country, account and market. Check the protection level, adjusted odds and payout before placing the wager.
